  30. Generally, none of them. The main way of improving GUS samples is using 
  31. larger samples with more splits across the keyboard. My advice: stick with 
  32. the Gravis GM set for games.

  44.     I still can't figure out how to get the drums to work with Recording
  45. Sessions..  I have set everything up correctly to the best of my ability.  If
  46. anyone can tell me a step by step procedure on how to get them working, please
  47. let me know.  I have even chosen channel 10, but no go..

  69. 1. Read the Cakewalk manual,

  71. 2. But in case you've got the demo version which you're using temporarily...

  73. Go into the "Settings" view, and select "midi devices". Make sure that
  74. "UltraSound MIDI Synth" is listed 1st in the "Output:", window, followed
  75. by "UltraSound MIDI Output Port". If these are not shown as options,
  76. then the GUS drivers have not been installed correctly.

  78. Now, by choosing port 1 on the track view, sound will go to the GUS Synth,
  79. and by choosing port 2, sound will go to the midi port. Each track can have
  80. it's own port, so you can mix-and-match whatever way you wish. I also
  81. have an MPU-compatible board, so I have three ports available (plus
  82. midi-mapper if I wished). Cakewalk allows up to 16 output ports.

  105. You should never use MIDI mapper with software like cakewalk. Midi mapper
  106. is there to help basic software run with special synth setups.
  107.  
  108. In the case of cakewalk, simply select in midi devices (under settings)
  109. the ultrasound midi synth and ultrasound midi port out. Dont select the
  110. midi mapper, and move the ultrasound midi synth to the top of the list.
  111. That way, in the sequence, port 1 will be the ultrasound synth and
  112. port 2 the ultrasound midi port.

  133. I've only tried the demo version of Cakewalk for Windows, but I think this will 
  134. work for you too.
  135. You can not use more than 16 channels with the MIDI mapper : you will only have 
  136. 8 channels GUS and 8 channels MIDI for example.
  137. But anyway, the advantage of Cakewalk over other sequencers like the one packed 
  138. with the GUS is that, for each track, you can choose not only the MIDI channel 
  139. but also the MIDI device to use for playback.
  140. If you have installed the drivers correctly, you should be able to choose 
  141. somewhere, for each track, between "GUS MIDI synth", "GUS MIDI out" and "MIDI 
  142. mapper". I don't remember where but I found it easily when I tried. Do not use 
  143. "MIDI mapper" but one of the other twos. And for each of these two devices, the 
  144. channels 1-16 will be available.

  156. Doesn't the track window have a listbox for each track where you
  157. can select which output device to use? Maybe you have to configure
  158. your list of output devices first in some other dialog - I can't
  159. remember.

  161. MIDI Mapper won't help. It deals in channels, of which there *are*
  162. only 16. Tracks are a feature of sequencers, and MIDI files on
  163. disk - not MIDI itself, so MIDI Mapper has nothing to do with them.

  179. I am already working on a section in the Patch List on how to replace patches to
  180. get more out of MEGAEM and ULTRAMID. It will list all the sizes of the original
  181. patches, and make some suggestions on which to replace, as well as telling you
  182. which order the MEGAEM et al loads the patches. Look for it soon...

  192. Sorry to be confusing but I've just renamed the sets of custom patches 
  193. 808drums.zip, 606drums.zip and cr78drms.zip on epas to 808chris.zip, 
  194. 606chris.zip and cr78chrs.zip.

  196. This is because Francois had already called his 808 patch set 808drums.zip 
  197. and it seemed less confusing to the world if mine were called something 
  198. different. (In preparation for Wildcat's new custom patch index!).

  200. Note that there have been absolutely no changes to these patches so don't 
  201. download them if you already have a copy.

  215. I have some Midi songs sequenced on a Yamaha SY22, using a soundblaster, 
  216. using Voyetra's Sequencer Plus Pro (which came with the SBpro). The 
  217. sequenced music was to be played back thru the synthsiser. But recently i 
  218. got a GUS, Gravis Ultrasound, which is a General Midi compliant device. I 
  219. wish to port the Synth MIDI file to GenMidi but some of the Drum tracks 
  220. do not match. AS such, i was wondering if anyone out there has any 
  221. experience concerning this "porting" of MIDI music from Sy22 to GenMidi. 
  222. If u do, please email me some info on how u map the drum tracks to their 
  223. proper placements....
